Diana Vela Carter is an elementary school Fine Arts teacher in Corpus Christi.
She teaches
Art at two schools and has over 900 students in grades K-5th .
Mrs. Carter has over
25 years experience as an educator and loves presenting
Art Workshops
and sharing art with art classes for children and adults. Mexican
Folk Art is her specialty. Look for her wonderful workshops at the Art Center
of Corpus Christi or contact her for birthday parties, Scout troops, church
activities, etc.

Diana is wild about all things  Mexico and Frida. Last year, as the recipient of
Crizmac's 2011 Spanish Language Study Scholarhip, she spent two weeks
studying Spanish at Cemanahuac Learning Community in Cuernavaca, Mexico. She
visited Frida's "Caza Azul" in Coyocan, the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan,
the spiritual community of Tepozlan, and toured some of the beautiful, old
cemeteries in surrounding areas. Diana traveled with her 18 year old son, Sam.

Rod Carter i
s a retired high school Biology teacher and is a gemstone "rock hound". He is very creative and is
designing jewelry, painting and working with digital photography.  He has taken most of the photos on this web site.

Rod and Diana present festive Mexican Folk Art work shops in the community and for private parties. They specialize
in Mini Altars and Retablos, FRIDA Art Parties,  Mexican Sugar Skulls, Papel Picado (filigree paper banners), Jewelry
Assemblage,  and Ceramics. Rod and Diana make a fun team of workshop presenters who enjoy working together and
love promoting Art
in the Community.

The staff at CRIZMAC is proud to
announce the recipient of our Spanish
Language 2011 scholarship. In collaboration
with the
Cemanahuac Educational
Community, CRIZMAC awarded Diana Carter
of Crockett Elementary and Montclair
Elementary in Corpus Christi, Texas a
scholarship for two weeks of intensive
Spanish language study this summer.

Diana will receive tuition for two weeks at
the Cemanahuac Educational Community
Language School in Cuernavaca, Mexico,
housing and three meals a day with a host
family, and one art-related field trip.

Through this scholarship, CRIZMAC strives
to support Diana in the pursuit of her
personal and professional goals by providing
her with a unique opportunity to immerse
herself in the language and vibrant culture
of Mexico.

educators selected Diana from an
impressive and highly competitive applicant
pool. We thank all of the applicants for
their interest and express our sincere
regret that we were unable to recognize
each individual. We encourage all art
educators interested in developing their
